Canada Post to Celebrate Anne of Green Gables 100th Anniversary

In 2008, Canada Post will mark the 100th anniversary of the first publication of Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables. The commemorative issue, which includes two stamps, an Official First Day Cover and other related postal products, will be on sale June 20, 2008. The Official First Day Cover will be postmarked with a cancel from the post office at Cavendish, PEI, the town that provided inspiration for the novel's setting, and also boast a unique cancel from the fictional town of Avonlea.

These cancels will be available through the Cavendish post office and Canada Post's National Philatelic Centre (1-800-565-4362 or http://www.canadapost.ca/collecting).
